Uniting Staff in The UT System’s Largest Administrative Office Facility

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center - Mid-Campus Building One & Parking Facility

WHR collaborated with Vaughn Construction to create the largest administrative office facility in The University of Texas System – MD Anderson’s Mid-Campus Building One. This Class A administrative office building comprises one 25-story tower, one 18-story tower, and one 3-story meeting center. This new facility provides office space for 78 departments formerly located at various lease sites in and around the Texas Medical Center.

The first two and a half months of the project were spent investigating the placement of the building and future parking garage, establishing the preferred building floor plate and size of the building, Since this facility acts as the gateway to the Mid-Campus, it was important that it make a statement. Cost and schedule were major considerations as the WHR / Vaughn Team, along with MDACC, and subsequently studied various options.

In order to meet schedule milestones a fast track approach to project delivery was developed. Along with the fast track schedule a new approach to obtain Owner input and review was put in place. The new approach facilitated a more integrated exchange of information between the Owner and the Design/Build team.
