Fully Integrated Wireless Hospital in Colorado

Platte Valley Medical Center - Community Hospital

Faced with increasing competition from Denver area hospitals coupled with a goal of increasing their market presence, Platte Valley Medical Center (PVMC) committed to building a 300-bed replacement hospital. PVMC partnered with WHR to tactfully manage and design that expansion, all while not modifying their established “front door” identity.

To creatively uphold this identity, WHR designed the hospital as a 360 degree facility, literally having no “back door”. Subsequently it was also designed to capture expansive views of the Rocky Mountains and nearby Barr Lake. To reinforce Platte Valley’s commitment to patient-family centered care, a natural color palette and familiar local materials were used to create a warm and inviting environment throughout the hospital.

Opened in July 2007, Platte Valley is experiencing overwhelming interest from the community for employment and volunteer opportunities as well as an increase in staff retention. Not only have they raised their presence in the community, they have increased their market share since opening.
