Evidence-Based Design Healthcare Solutions for Northeast Texas

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital – Emergency Department & Bed Tower Expansion

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital was a complex, multi-phased project providing the client and community with a new Emergency Department (ED), a renovated Lab, new Outpatient Registration and Main Public Entrance, a Gift Shop and two floors of Nursing Units with 60 beds. One of the key goals for the project was to provide the nursing staff with optimized, process-driven work space. To achieve this, WHR leveraged evidence-based design principles, and staged patient room and nurse work station mock ups to test an optimal environment for both patient and practitioner.

The renovated Emergency Department featured many innovations as well. Treatment rooms were same-handed to reduce variability and provide flexibility for medical staff. Nurse stations were opened to treatment rooms for improved patient visibility. The creation of a Triage room, Minor Care room and sub-waiting area was built within the ED to increase patient flow.  All of these design decisions will decrease medical errors, increase efficiency and elevate patient satisfaction with their experience in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
