As one of the fastest growing suburban communities in the Houston area with substantial demand for healthcare services, Sugar Land, Texas was an ideal location for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHS) to build a new replacement hospital. This hospital and its distinctive architectural features serve as a landmark and leverage the high-visibility location at the crossroads of major Houston highways.
With WHR, MHHS committed to a planning and design process that would produce a best-of-class facility. The WHR team began shaping the physical program for the hospital, with a philosophy that emphasized the mental, spiritual, and aesthetic aspects of healing.
The new Memorial Hermann Sugar land Hospital replaced the existing hospital in Fort Bend County, Texas. The new site, located on 27.68 acres, in located in a rapidly growing suburban area. The initial phase built out 81 beds and the site master planned for growth to a 300-bed facility. The new replacement hospital is approximately 223,000 square feet and includes a healing garden, a public concourse, 16 emegery department exam rooms, two observations room, three operating rooms, nine LDRs, four antepartum, an OB program, 60 new beds and private medical/surgical nursing units, including either acuity-adaptable ICU rooms.
The scope of work included a campaus master plan with a Medical Office Building, parking, and future growth placeholders. The Sugar Land Replacement Hospital was designed and constructed concurrently with the Katy Replacement Hospital. Both projects utilized a phased construction approach.
