Bispebjerg Somatic Hospital

The “New Hospital and Mental Health Bispebjerg” is a hospital campus that has several projects involving the construction of new buildings, the preservation/renovation of listed buildings, and upon its completion, will merge the current Frederiksberg and Bispebjerg Hospitals to meet the demands of the region. Bispebjerg Somatic Hospital, is the biggest sub-project of the campus and is the heart of the “New Hospital and Mental Health Bispebjerg.” The Bispebjerg Somatic Hospital includes an Emergency Department, Imaging and Surgery, and approximately 600 patient rooms. With its 66,500 square meters (715,855 SF).

The consortium of WHR Architects, KHR Arkiteckter, and Arup International Ltd. have been awarded the Bispebjerg Somatic Hospital of the “New Hospital and Mental Health Bispebjerg” campus. The project consists of six (6) Bed Tower buildings connected on a diagnostic and treatment base that reflects the existing historical buildings of Bispebjerg with new ideas of operations and wayfinding. The architecture of the building creates a clear reference to the area that it surrounds while creating a new architectural language.
