To celebrate Children’s Medical Center Dallas’ 100-year anniversary, WHR helped honor the centennial by renovating their main lobby to feature a permanent exhibit highlighting the hospital’s storied history and dedication to children.
The defining concept for the Lobby Renovation project is “Refined Whimsy” which is expressed via simple sophisticated forms, a modern color palette, and design visuals that feature fanciful renditions of the Dallas skyline, animals, nature and, of course, children.
Visitors entering the newly renovated space are greeted by the lively, immersive Centennial Exhibit featuring multiple touch screens and engaging displays. Storytelling is fundamental to the exhibit content; a prominent feature is an interactive timeline that chronicles the development of CMC Dallas from its early “Baby Camp” days to the current academic medical center.
The central theme of the Centennial Exhibit, designed by West Office Exhibition Design, is the realization of the vision articulated for CMCD by founder Nurse May Smith.
Smith’s vision was made possible only through the dedication of the Dallas community to provide health care for all children – regardless of ability to pay. A “high-tech and high-touch” Donor Recognition Wall commemorates generous gifts given to the hospital by the community; the design features layered panels of wood and etched glass, illustrative storybook-like graphics, color-changing LED lighting and a large digital screen wall with donor names displayed in playful bubbles that move as visitors touch the screen or walk by.
