A long-time repeat client, we have recently completed construction on a new patient tower. The five-story campus addition adds 108 beds when completed. Phase I of this project includes the build out of the first three floors with two levels shelled for future build out. The first floor of the 147,000 sf addition houses a new day surgery unit including four new surgical suites with 42 patient recovery rooms for day surgery and heart procedure patients. Features include a large open lobby area with a registration desk and entrance for day surgery patients, eliminating the need to enter the main hospital area. Other amenities include a patient drop off where staff will offer assistance in parking and a guest check-in desk.
All patient rooms are private with views to the outside and utilize natural lighting. The bed floor is devoted to ICU and CCU patients. The curved glass exterior wall provides floorto-ceiling windows in many of the patient rooms. The design team worked with regulatory agencies and the owners insurance company to create this unique design feature. Patient rooms include family accommodations such as Murphy beds, desk and internet connections. The client wanted to utilize central nursing units but provided nursing alcoves that share two patient rooms.
Planning elements for the patient floors include separate circulation areas for staff and materials. All public corridors are clean and utilize extensive artwork, creating a non-institutional look for patients and visitors.
