Oklahoma Heart Hospital
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Heart Hospital is a specialty hospital specific to the care and treatment of cardiovascular disease. It is located on the campus of a large regional medical center in northwest Oklahoma City. The site is contiguous with a major highway system to provide visibility and recognition as well as immediate access to the special cardiovascular care provided. The hospital contains 80 inpatient beds and is designed for three floors of construction totaling approximately 230,000 square feet. The first floor contains five cardiac catheterization procedure rooms and four surgical procedure rooms. The post anesthesia recovery is small since the majority of recovery will occur in the Intensive Care Unit on the second floor. The Emergency Area is also minimal since the existing medical center, adjacent to the specialty hospital, contains a major regional trauma center. The second floor is designed to bring services to the patient. The Imaging, Diagnostics, lab, Pathology and Pharmacy departments are each located on the patient bed floor. The floor will have inpatient beds designed in eight bed pods, or clusters. There are both intensive and acute care beds in eight-bed clusters. This pod design is thought to be a first of its kind in healthcare design. The third floor is designed for a large clinic practice for cardiologists. The clinic contains 24 physician offices and 36 exam rooms as well as certain imaging and diagnostic procedure rooms.
