The College of Nursing building will be located on the site of the existing school in the Texas Medical Center. The 110,000 square foot facility will house the Minority Health Research Center, Learning Resource Center, Departments of Adult Nursing, Family Nursing, Mental Health, Community Health, Distance Education and administrative and faculty offices.
To support the constant association between didactic and �hands-on� learning, skills labs and support labs are adjacent to classroom and lecture spaces. A Patient Simulation Laboratory was developed with a state-of-the-art human simulator. This cutting edge technology allows nurses to experience real life situations and procedures that the simulator responds to such as cardiac arrest, defibrillation, medication dosing and even allergic response. Classrooms and seminar spaces are equipped with full information technology interface via the Internet, intranet, distance education and audio/video presentation.
A 1,000 car parking structure is an integrated component of the College, accomplished through a land transfer and long term lease agreement with Memorial Hermann Healthcare Systems / Memorial Hermann Hospital. By combining the properties, the University will be able to expand their college to an ultimate 220,000 gross square feet, and the Hospital will operate the parking garage on behalf of the University.
