The Harte Research Institute was established with a private donation which will fund research science chairs and graduate research fellowships, and provide an operating fund for the new Institute. The State of Texas has provided funding for the construction of the new research facility, which will complement the University�s focus on teaching, research and services related to the Gulf of Mexico with special emphasis on the Texas coast. The new 56,000 square foot facility will include wet and dry labs, seawater labs for both teaching and research, an education outreach center, exhibit area and a conference center. The Institute will also be part of a new �gateway� to this island campus. WHR is working in association with Richter Architects on the design of this facility.
