A new facility was needed to expand the university’s biosciences research capabilities with much-needed laboratories, vivarium, aquarium, ABSL-3 lab and office/support space. WHR evaluated the master plan and recommended a new location for the facility. This site was designated near existing related buildings, creating an easily commutable “scientific center” on the campus. This location also allowed the facility to tie into the existing utility plant and the design created a platform for simple future expansion of campus utilities.
The university has now dramatically extended its research capabilities and enhanced its ability to deliver on the organization’s mission. The building’s interdisciplinary configuration serves as a logical extension of nearby science buildings and promotes sharing of information between departments.
The building shares the Bhutanese architectural exterior of many buildings on campus, while having some unique characteristics of its own.
