Increasing Wet Lab Spaces for the University of Texas

University of Texas at Austin - Neural and Molecular Sciences Building

To adequately support its mission for the advancement of molecular biology, neurobiology and microbiology, the university needed a substantial new research facility. The new building would have to adhere to the campus architectural and landscape master plan, as well as accommodate future expansion.

Working in association with Overland Partners, WHR designed a five-story structure with a central six-story heat-recovery system for energy conservation. Beyond currently required research facilities, two shell floors are incorporated into the design for later finishing as future needs dictate.

WHR high-efficiency project management and collaborative process between design team, construction manager and owner facilitated more effective quality control, enabling successful delivery of the facility in a much shorter period.
