Memorial Hermann
Katy & Sugar Land Hospitals

Challenge
Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHS) needed to quickly replace two aging community hospitals that did not reflect MHHS’ standard of care. Both hospitals were in two of the fastest growing suburban areas of Houston with substantial demand for healthcare services.

Solution
Because speed to market was a factor, WHR was tasked with developing both hospitals within 30 months – design and construction. The design began as a prototype that would be site adapted for each facility. Because each community had different practice models and volumes, the prototype model had to be modified to address each hospital’s specific needs.

MHHS’ mission is to provide patient-centric healing environments. Two-story public spaces and views to gardens provide natural light. Private rooms and public and family-oriented spaces with special finishes create the positive patient and family experience MHHS is known for in the community.

Results
Utilizing the modified prototype, we were able to affect cost savings and meet the 30-month design and construction schedule. Memorial Hermann now has a model for future community hospitals.
