Hopkins County Memorial Hospital
Emergency Department and Bed Tower Expansion

The renovation at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital is a complex multi-phased construction project providing the client and community with a new Emergency Department (ED), a renovated Lab, new Outpatient Registration and Main Public Entrance, a Gift Shop and 2 floors of Nursing Units with 60 beds.

One of the goals for the renovation project was to provide the nursing staff with more adequate, code-compliant, process-driven work space. During design phases, the architect worked with the nursing unit staff to develop optimal working environments with safety in mind using evidence-based design principles. They accomplished this through the development of mock-ups for both the patient rooms and nurse stations.

There are several innovations in the ED. Nurse stations are open to treatment rooms for improved patient visibility. Treatment rooms are same-handed to reduce variability and provide flexibility for medical staff. The ED has a Triage room, Minor Care room and sub-waiting area to facilitate patient flow.  All of these design decisions will decrease medical errors and increase patient satisfaction with their experience in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
