Interior Design Intern

Job Description

 

Position Summary

The Entry Level Designer is a recent graduate.  He/she will perform variety of routine tasks that provide support for the Senior Interior Designers and Designers.  He/she will also be exposed to experiences and interaction with higher level staff to prepare for the NCIDQ licensure exam.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Interior Design from FIDER accredited school
  • Working towards taking the NCIDQ license and eligible to be registered in the state of Texas

  • Possess basic understanding of the “design process” and how to document design
  • Has the ability to understand and works well within WHR’s organizational structure
  • Has a basic grasp of design fundamentals and a basic knowledge of theoretical and
    practical developments in the field of design and architecture

 

Responsibilities

  • Active learning / expanding horizons (be a sponge)
  • Stay up to date on all products

 

Schematic Design

  • Assist Sr. Interior Designer with concept building and implementing the SD Task list, in the WHR Process Manual
  • Documentation

 

Design Development Phase

  • Product research
  • Assist SID with
    1. Presentation at DD meeting (if possible)
    2. Meeting notes
    3. Information gathering at DD meetings (if possible)
    4. Meeting notes
    5. Developing design/material options for (entire space)
    6. Floor
    7. Ceiling
    8. Walls
    9. Millwork
    10. Furniture layouts
    11. Review of Specification Manual
    12. Following DD task list that is listed in WHR Process Manual
  • Documentation

 

Construction Documents/Construction Administration Phases

  • Make design “doable” /  “buildable”
  • Documentation
  • Specifications

 

Furniture

  • Product research
  • Assist SID with
    1. Presentation at furniture meeting (if possible)
    2. Meeting notes
    3. Information gathering at furniture meetings (if possible)
    4. Meeting notes
    5. Selections and layout of furniture design options for
  • Documentation/Specifications

 

Responsibilities

 

General Responsibilities

  • Continue education through seminars and participation in professional organization activities
  • Be aware of business development opportunities for the firm
