Oak Bend Medical Center
Richmond, Texas
As a result of collaboration between M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Oak Bend Medical Center a new $12 million high-tech Cancer facility is expected open to the public by the end of 2004. The 35,000 square foot building will house the Radiation Treatment Center and feature the most technologically advanced and most powerful medical equipment available including a Varian Clinac 21EX Linear Accelerator and a Philips Medical Systems ACQSim CT Simulator. Such equipment will allow for a wide range of sophisticated and recently developed therapy techniques such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). IMRT is believed to be the greatest advance in radiation oncology in the past 40 years and has resulted in significant improvements in tumor control.
The first floor of the two-story center will be entirely dedicated to patient care while the second floor will be the administrative suites of Oak Bend Medical Center and physician offices.
