We recognize that a collective shift to sustainable communities and architecture requires a focused and strategic commitment. In light of this, WHR launched the Sustainable Design Initiative (SDI) in 2008 to provide deeper resources for staff and clients and to strengthen our knowledge and commitment.

SDI Mission
SDI is committed to seamless integration of Sustainable Design within our practice, fostering a culture within our people and realizing our clients’ vision while guiding them through the process and advancing a paradigm of sustainability for the communities within which we build. SDI’s mission translates into three distinct objectives that provide us with a framework to design and operate sustainably:

Project Implementation:  Project Implementation outlines WHR’s Project Approach, highlights our Integrated Sustainable Design Process and describes the tools and methodologies available for our teams to facilitate sustainable design

Culture: By increasing Education & Awareness of our employees, implement¬ing various Green Office & Operational Policies and incorporating diverse Initiatives, we work towards a Culture that reinforces Sustain¬ability in our daily life

Client & Community Benefit: As a firm with human focus at its core, we at SDI strive towards being a Resource to our Clients on their path to Sustainable develop¬ment. Giving back to the Community & Profession through Outreach is a core component of our practice.

LEED Certified Projects
WHR uses a “whole building” approach in balancing the environmental and economic aspects of each of our projects. In order to promote the use of this approach, WHR promotes Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation among our staff. Currently, WHR has 36 LEED® Accredited Professionals (AP) on staff
