The local café has long been a favored gathering point for serious discussion of timely topics. Bright minds from Sartre to Hemingway to Picasso met in Paris cafés, politicians on the stump seek out engaged, potential voters in corner coffee shops, and Starbucks is the place to be for lively conversation in many communities. There are also a growing number of “cafés” that are informal public discussions such as the “Science Cafés” taking place around the United States or Café Society’s sponsored conversations in Chicago.
At WHR, the Knowledge Café is both our physical gathering spot for informal discussion and our online home for news and ideas. Now it is home to our research series, WHR’s Café Papers, on issues pertinent to our practice.
Our first Café Paper is "Lean Thinking: Lean design for lean times" available for download here. More Cafe Papers will appear in the coming months.
