Modular Research Labs Enhance Collaboration Among Scientists

Houston Methodist – The Fondren Building

WHR was charged with furthering Houston Methodist’s mission to advance the understanding of biological systems, improve disease control, facilitate breakthrough research, and attract top scientists. Supported by NIH grants earmarked for advanced biomedical research, four floors of the building were to be completely renovated.

New state-of-the-art facilities were designed with modular and adaptable open spaces that feature movable casework, to facilitate close interaction between laboratories and collaboration among scientists. The project includes autoclave/glassware wash, dark room, cold and environmental rooms, freezers and supply storage. WHR also designed the HVAC system to save energy costs and reduce the size of the physical plant.
