St Luke's Episcopal Texas Heart Institute - Cardiac Regeneration Laboratory

The WHR Architects' designed Cardiac Regeneration Laboratory in the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, is a 7,400 square foot renovation in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. In 2012, Dr. Doris Taylor, a pioneer in the development of cardiovascular cell therapy and bioartificial organ technology, was recruited as Director of Regenerative Medicine Research at the Texas Heart Institute (THI) and was looking for some equally advanced workspace solutions for the THI.

To support Dr. Doris Taylor and her team, WHR custom designed a special bench and shelves to aid the researchers in suspending large de-cell containers above their workbenches. Hydraulic lifts suspended over the benches allow the research team to adjust the large de-cell solution containers to accommodate different experiments. The benches also utilize custom perforated work surfaces with a trough and integral drain below, so cellular and liqud waste can be removed easily from the work space.
