Houston, TX — Memorial Hermann hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the East Tower of the Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital to celebrate the recently completed interior build-out of levels six and seven on February 3, 2014. WHR Architects designed the entire East Tower, including the 45,593 square feet of level six’s joint center and level seven’s TIRR inpatient medical rehabilitation unit.
“WHR and our project team wanted to provide spaces here in the Woodlands that enable the Memorial Hermann staff to deliver the same high levels of care found in the Texas Medical Center,” said Gus Blanco, AIA, ACHA, principal-in-charge and senior project manager.
Levels six and seven of the East Tower include 36 new medical-surgical, monitored private, patient rooms (18 per floor), nurse stations with conference and meeting spaces, medication rooms, nourishment rooms, equipment and supply storage areas, housekeeping room, pneumatic tube stations that tie into the existing hospital-wide system, a staff lounge with lockers, offices, dictation spaces, and staff/family multipurpose spaces.
“Over the past 20 years, we have done ten major expansion projects. We now have over one million square feet on this campus,” said Steve Sanders, CEO of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. “The changes have been remarkable. We can’t wait to show this project off. The seventh floor TIRR unit is a real treat.”
The project has been successful due, in part, to the close collaboration between Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, WHR Architects, program manager Broaddus & Associates, MEP engineers Shah Smith and Associates, and many other project team members.
Carl Josehart, CEO of TIRR Memorial Hermann, said “It’s always been our vision that care, especially rehabilitation, happens best when it’s close to the community that people are a part of.”
WHR has enjoyed a working relationship with Memorial Hermann that spans over 20 years and multiple projects across their Woodlands, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest, Katy, Sugar Land, and Texas Medical Center hospital campuses. WHR's recent and current healthcare projects include work with Children's Medical Center Dallas, Comanche County Memorial Hospital, Nora’s Home, REX UNC Healthcare North Carolina Hospital, Stamford Hospital, and many clients in the Texas Medical Center.
