Kate

Medical Planner
Kate comes from a family of runners and has run since she was six. "A great accomplishment was to run the New York City marathon with my sister and my mother – it was not only the running but discovering my dedication to finish."

Her inquisitive spirit and ability to ‘go the distance’ have found a perfect haven in WHR’s healthcare studio, where original research drives her team’s work on very innovative – and often very complex and lengthy – projects. Kate was drawn to WHR when she heard Principal Mark Vaughan speak at a healthcare conference about patient safety and evidence-based design. His talk struck a chord with Kate, who learned early that "applying tangible information in a creative situation gives credibility to your design."

Meticulous and methodical even as a child, Kate enjoyed building small projects around the house. Her father, an engineer, made sure she drafted detailed plans "to ensure we purchased the right amount of material and made the right cuts the first time."

Kate’s six year old daughter is running with her now and other family activities occupy most of Kate’s free time. Her active family may have influenced Kate’s appreciation for working closely with others. "There’s a strong team atmosphere at WHR. When we travel to projects, we get together after hours – I like getting to know them from another perspective and just enjoying them. It makes a world of difference to our working relationship."
