Houston, Texas (October 2007) — WHR Architects, Inc. (WHR) has been honored with the 2007 International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Pinnacle Award for The Large Firm of the Year and the Design Excellence Award in Healthcare for the Texas/Oklahoma Region.
Ken Ross, President and Sr. Principal said, “Receiving these prestigious awards confirms our commitment to quality. We are honored and justifiably proud of our Interiors Studio’s continuing leadership in the design profession."
The Pinnacle, the highest honor IIDA can bestow upon a design firm, is granted only to firms that have consistently contributed to the highest aspiration of the profession, community and the IIDA while remaining committed to enhancing the quality of life through excellence in interior design. WHR Architects has been the only firm to receive the Pinnacle award twice; the first was awarded in 2002.
The Design Excellence Award was given in recognition for WHR’s design of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System’s Community Hospitals in Katy and Sugar Land, Texas.
The judges commented that the non-threatening design would help take away the nervousness of being sick in a hospital as well as being “ a very nice place to get well.”
“Making the hospital more warm and hospitable benefits the patients and staff and contributes to the overall healing environment,” notes Linda Bishop, Director of Interior Design.
