Houston, TX — At the recent Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition & Congress in Abu Dhabi, The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi received the 2010 Best Hospital Design Award (Built or Future). The award, open to both completed and planned projects, looks for an outstanding hospital design that places both patients and the environment at the heart of the project, reflecting the vision and mission of the organization in the final design.
For the project, Cleveland Clinic partnered with Mubadala Healthcare to develop and manage a 360-bed hospital and 250-exam room clinic, with goal of providing the latest in leading edge medical technology and facilities. “Working closely with the Cleveland Clinic, Mubadala Healthcare and the architect, HDR, from the inception of the project, we have been able to provide planning insights and advice regarding financially justified, and clinically balanced, technology solutions,” says Bob Nimon, Genesis Planning’s managing director. “Additionally, our early and on-going involvement has had a direct impact on the facility’s configuration of clinical spaces, room layouts and departmental contents of what will be the most technologically advance facility in the region.”
Located on Al Sowah Island adjacent to Al Reem Island and scheduled to open in late 2012, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will set a new benchmark in medical facilities around the world with its ‘7 Star’ service and quality. Like its counterpart in the United States, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will be a physician-led medical facility, served by Western-trained, North American board-certified (or equivalent) physicians. As an extension of the Cleveland Clinic model, the hospital will provide a spectrum of specialty services including vanguard tertiary medical services through a comprehensive range of specialties and subspecialties to cater to the healthcare needs of Abu Dhabi and the region.
“We join Genesis Planning in congratulating the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi,” WHR President and Chairman David Watkins, FAIA comments. “In keeping with their reputation for providing the state-of-the art healthcare services, the Cleveland Clinic has taken a progressive approach to design, integrating architecture and technology planning to create a best-of-class facility.”
Among Genesis Planning’s recent and current projects: The Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, The Methodist West Houston Hospital, and the soon-to-open The Methodist Hospital Outpatient Center, all in Houston, Texas and Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.
