Since our inception, we have understood our work to be part of a covenant with our clients to help them maximize the value of the buildings we design for them. The financial and staff resources they commit to their projects is an investment in their future and requires a commensurate commitment on our part to understand their vision, their goals and the dynamic environment in which they find themselves. We think of this as an empathetic approach to design: an attempt on our part to never lose sight of the clients perspective.
We meet this challenge in several ways. We employ a process that allows our clients to participate in and contribute to the design outcome as much as possible. We utilize a knowledge-seeking process that some refer to as evidence-based design: a process that uses the best available information to guide design decisions, contribute to building performance and, ultimately enhance the positive influence our buildings can have on those who occupy them.
We also understand that every new building requires the talents of a wide range of knowledge specialists and skills. In our view, that means we must always approach our partners in these efforts as collaborators; those whose knowledge and capabilities deserve respect and whose input must be allowed to add value to the end result.
We recognize that our work can also impact the lives of those who may never visit the buildings we design. For us, this means we must respect the broader community and act responsibility toward the natural environment.
The success of our empathetic process of design is measured by the following outcomes:
- For our clients: relevance and value in the services we provide,
- For our collaborators: respect and reliability,
- For those who use our buildings: enhanced well-being,
- For the natural environment: reduced burden on our natural resources,
- For our staff: empowered and maximized individual potential, and
- For the community: enhanced experience through the creation of memorable and inspiring places.
