WHR's Interiors Studio Wins IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter's Pinnacle Award

Houston, TX — At the IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Annual Awards Gala on August 13, 2010 in Dallas, WHR’s Interiors Studio was honored with the prestigious Pinnacle Award. This was the third time that the firm has been recognized with the coveted award for their continued contributions to the profession, to IIDA and to their communities.  During the ceremonies WHR interior designers, Necia Bonner, IIDA, LEED® AP and Amy Lopez, IIDA, AAHID both received the 2010 IIDA Chapter Volunteer of the Year Award.

“While we know we have an exceptional and dedicated team, winning the Chapter’s Pinnacle Award means that our peers are taking note,” said Gail Sterling, FIIDA, AAHID, who heads the Studio. “It’s important, too, because we are always looking for talent for the Studio or collaborators for projects and IIDA is a great resource.”

The award arrives at a time when WHR’s Interiors Studio is reaching new milestones in several areas of endeavor. Having recently completed a challenging interiors program for the groundbreaking new 760,000 square foot, Outpatient Center for The Methodist Hospital that opened in July 2010, the interiors team is readying a finish mock-up of office spaces for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s new 1.4 million square foot, administration building, which is due to open in the fall of 2011.

In the last year several of WHR’s projects have won awards. Jersey Shore University Medical Center won a Citation of Merit from Healthcare Design and an Academy Award from the International Academy of the Design & Health. The Methodist Breast Imaging Center won the IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Design Excellence Award and the Antron Carpet Fiber Designed to Perform Award for Healthcare. At the same time, the Interiors Studio is actively pursuing research on several healthcare design-related topics and is working closely with WHR’s sustainability team on product evaluation.

“Our commitment to design excellence, to education and certification, to research and to sustainability are all part of our determination to provide our clients with the best ‘single source design resource’ in our every one of our markets,” comments Peggy Noakes, FIIDA, AAHID, LEED„¥ AP, Senior Interior Designer. “No matter where you work with WHR you always get the A Team”.

"We could not be more honored or pleased by IIDA's recognition of our Interiors Studio," says WHR President and Charirman David Watkins, FAIA. "The interiors team is a driving force for innovation across the firm and a acritical part of our success."

Among WHR recent and current projects: Stamford Health System in Connecticut; Christus St. Frances Cabrini in Alexandria, Louisiana; Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey; Leah M.
