OKLAHOMA HEART Hospital

Challenge
A large free-standing hospital dedicated to the care and treatment of cardiovascular disease was to be added to the campus of the regional medical center in Oklahoma City. The goal was to create a center of excellence in cardiovascular care not found anywhere in the region.

Solution
Inpatient beds are situated in eight-bed clusters or pods and are acuity adaptable. The pods provide a quieter environment through reduction of hospital traffic. Outpatient and pre-admission testing areas, cardiac catheterization procedure rooms and surgical procedure rooms are in a central location near the lobby. Furthermore, private heart-related physician practices are accommodated within the building.

Designed as an all digital facility, doctors and nursing staff have access anywhere in the hospital to patient information instantly.

Results
Oklahoma Heart during their first year of operation increased their patient satisfaction rating substantially. According to Press Ganey Associates, the healthcare communitys top satisfaction measurement and improvement firm, ranked the hospital in the top 1 percent nationally for patient satisfaction.

Designed to accelerate the critical path for heart patients entering though emergency to receiving surgery, patients critical path is 45 minutes, in contrast with the national average of more than two hours.
