Faced with increasing competition from Denver area hospitals coupled with a goal of increasing their market presence, Platte Valley Medical Center committed to building a replacement hospital. The 50-acre greenfield site was located in a new development with visibility from a major highway.
Knowing this would ultimately be a 300-bed hospital, critical decisions were made during master planning that would allow them to incrementally expand without modifying their newly created front door identity. Because there are multiple directions in which to access the campus, the hospital was designed as a 360 degree facility, visually having no back door. It also has been designed to capture expansive views of the Rocky Mountains and nearby Barr Lake.
To reinforce Platte Valleys commitment to patient-family centered care, a palette taken from colors found in nature and familiar local materials were used creating a warm and inviting environment throughout the hospital.
In partnership with Toshiba, Platte Valley is the only show site in the US that showcases the Aquilion 64 CT Scanner and the Vantage Atlas MRI system, some of the most advanced imaging technology available today. With the most comprehensive, fully integrated wireless system in Colorado, they are one of the few hospitals that can wirelessly monitor patients vital information from anywhere within the facility.
Opened in July 2007, Platte Valley is experiencing overwhelming interest from the community for employment and volunteer opportunities as well as an increase in staff retention. Not only have they raised their presence in the community, they have increased their market share since opening.
