Retirements from WHR Architects

Since our founding, WHR Architects has had the benefit of seasoned professionals of exceptional talent with unparalleled project experience upon whose shoulders we have built our firm. These individuals have provided guidance, contributed wise counsel and, most importantly, mentored a successive generation of capable architects upon which the firm will continue to grow and prosper.

We currently find ourselves at a unique moment in the life of our firm in which 4 of these senior leaders have recognized that they are able to pass the baton and let the next generation take responsibility for the future of the firm.

Kirby Keahey, FAIA: Joining WHR in 1997, Kirby has for most of his tenure at WHR been the leader of our Education, Science and Technology Studio. He has been responsible for building this important part of our practice and assembling an exceptional portfolio of significant projects. Under his leadership, WHR has designed numerous noteworthy projects for most of the major higher education systems in the State of Texas. Kirby's projects include: the Research Replacement Facility for UT Health Science Center in Houston, the Biosciences Building at UT El Paso, the Research Park Complex for UT Health Science Center in the Texas Medical Center and the General Services Complex for Texas A&M; University.

Peter Lotz, AIA: Serving more than 13 years as WHR's Director of Research Facilities, Peter has been involved in many of the firm's most challenging and interesting projects, including: The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in the Texas Medical Center, the Harte Research Center at Texas A&M; University in Corpus Christi, the Neural and Molecular Science Building at the University of Texas at Austin and the Ocean and Coastal Studies Facility for Texas A&M; University in Galveston. Peter and WHR are proud of the legacy of leading-edge research facilities Peter has designed for Texas' major universities.

Brian Riley, AIA: From the earliest days of the firm, WHR has prided itself on its technical performance. For more than 20 years, Brian Riley has been a consistent contributor to building the firm's technical standards, maintaining quality control and mentorship of young professionals. Brian has fostered the collegial relationships the firm maintains with the builders, engineers and specialty consultants who are so essential to the quality of our buildings.

Robert Detamore, AIA: WHR takes great pride in the long-term client relationships we maintain. This has been the result of unparalleled service and project delivery performance. Robert Detamore has set the standard for client service at WHR, maintaining WHR's ongoing relationship with Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler for 17 years. His many accomplishments for TMFH include: the Ornelas Tower, the Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital and the Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Jacksonville.

Although these four exemplary individuals will be missed, we know their legacy will live on in the careers of the many young architects they have trained and the extensive list of satisfied clients they have served. We know you will join their colleagues at WHR in thanking them for their service and the wishing them all the best in their retirement.
