WHR helps TAMUG break ground on Science Complex

Galveston, Texas (May 2008) �  The following press release comes from Texas A&M; University at Galveston, where WHR Architects, Inc. (WHR) is architect of record for the new Science Complex.

Texas A&M; University at Galveston broke ground on a $50 million dollar Science Complex on the Mitchell Campus on Saturday, April 26, 2008.  The new Science Complex will provide over 100,000 square feet of research and teaching space dedicated to marine biology, ecology, comparative physiology, marine sciences and the advancement of environmental theory and policy.  More than 1500 undergraduate students, 100 graduate students, 50 faculty members will make use of its many classrooms and laboratories.

Vergel Gay brought greetings from the Texas A&M; University System.  While Dr. James Calvin extended greetings and congratulations on behalf of Texas A&M; University President Dr. Elsa Murano.  RADM William W. Pickavance, Jr. USN (ret.) who serves are the Chairman of the Board of Visitors and is a 1968 graduate of the Texas Maritime Academy welcomed guests and recollected his time on campus.  He reflected on the many changes that have taken place on campus and heralded the new building as a sign of continued success and future pride.

Mayor Pro-Tem Danny Weber, Sr., State Representative Craig Eiland, and State Senator Mike Jackson also made remarks.  Jim McMillen of WHR Architects was on hand to speak about the project
