A new facility was needed to advance Methodist Hospital’s mission for conducting aggressive and innovative research. The building would need to host an immense range of research facilities, laboratory support spaces, vivarium, specialty facilities such as BSL-3 labs, and office, administrative and conference spaces.
WHR created a plan for a new 300,000 square-foot facility that would be added to the hospital’s main campus within the densely built confines of Houston’s Texas Medical Center. The design accommodates all laboratory needs and support facilities, including a cryogenic storage freezer farm and chip technology clean rooms. Ample square footage is also dedicated to office, conference and casual gathering spaces.
The Research Institute now serves all intended purposes. It also leaves room to accommodate expansion and the needs of future lead researchers yet to be recruited and projects yet to be conceived
