Several new research facilities were needed to extend and expand the university’s capabilities. A multi-phase, multi-building research park complex was conceived, which would necessitate a first-ever move outside the university’s densely utilized Texas Medical Center campus.
WHR created a master plan for the complex, which includes several buildings, a new central plant and a parking garage. The first phase will house a neurosciences replacement facility and a stem-cell-dedicated biological research education facility in one building, and a UT Dental Branch replacement facility in a second building.
This new separate “south campus expansion” establishes the research park complex with its own unique identity. The space affords ample room for the university’s future needs, both known and unknown
