When Susquehanna Health System (SHS) initiated planning for the system’s largest campus revitalization and expansion project at their Williamsport Hospital campus, management needed to understand not only the capital costs associated with the new facility but how their interim annual capital expenditures would be affected as well.
Since medical technology was the second most expensive project category, SHS management, through Granary Associates, enlisted the expertise of Genesis Planning to develop an integrated 5-year capital plan and took into account the costs of new technology associated with the expansion project that would be completed in 3 years.
The planning tool identified which medical equipment could be scheduled for interim purchase or relocated; which capital expenditures could be delayed until the opening of the facility; and serves as a capital model that gives administration a proactive view of their major capital expenditures and confidence that the correct capital requirements have been budgeted and planned for their new facility.
