October 2009 
October started off running with another master planning exercise - this time, with a Greenfield site. To develop a program for the first of the multi-phase project, I worked with Charles Cadenhead, senior Medical Planner, and Bob Uhlenhake, programmer, to extract the program from three related projects. Based on rules-of-thumb, we are able to estimate the amount of parking required for the initial phase, and calculate the site coverage in acres.  I helped prepare drawings and sketches to bring to the first worksession to present to the client and consultants. Having the chance to interact with clients and consultants, and witness the discussions that happen has been beneficial in understanding the bigger picture.

As a member firm of the Health Industry Advisory Council (HIAC), WHR is invited every year to a conference hosted by Texas A&M. The current Tradewell is invited to attend, which provides a prime opportunity to speak with other health professionals and students. Four Tradewells attended, and participated in studio visits. Diana and I were able to attend the student portfolio review; allowing one-on-one time with students. 

Diana and I revised our previous article on fellowships to submit to Healthcare Design Magazine online. For this article, we asked for the insight and perspective of another healthcare fellow outside of WHR. We hope to see this article posted to Healthcare Design's website sometime in November.

October is a busy month of marketing, especially for the current Tradewell. I helped pull together a team to compile several packets for mailing. We had a successful year, and completed the packets for mailing in a record time of 1 day! I look forward to seeing the results of this year’s mailing, and hope to see a variety of applicants for next year’s Fellow. .
