Sketch of a WHR project

September 2009
Diana Anderson (Fellow 2008-2009) and I decided to reach out to architecture students across the country. Together, we wanted to educate the group on employment opportunities after graduation by means of an article published in the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Crit Journal this fall.

Most students may not realize the variety of options they have after receipt of their degree, including fellowships offered by a variety of organizations. Every employment opportunity is valuable, especially with today’s economic climate; however, a fellowship may offer tremendous opportunities beyond a traditional internship, and may present lifelong value.

To help fine-tune my project ideas, I sat down with our Director of Evidence-Based Design Research, Laurie Waggener, to discuss what topics have more promise for publication. Laurie is one of several people who have been helpful in defining and supporting my interests.

Toward the end of the month, I had the chance to tour the construction site of the Memorial Hermann Outpatient tower in the Texas Medical Center with two former Tradewells.
