“I'm brainstorming ideas and talking to past Tradewell Fellows.”

June 2009

As part of my Tradewell Fellowship, I have been asked to pick an area of interest, and put together a piece of writing or a project suitable for publication. I began brainstorming some ideas from other published material, and talking to past Fellows:

-Care at the End of Life – Where does it occur now? Why? What are trends and the future of this type of care? What works/ doesn’t work? What is the impact of the environment on the well-being of older adults? What are the issues at the end of life, and how can the designed environment help?

-What can be learned from our past experiences? What evidence was used in the design, what was the architectural response to that evidence, and what was the outcome? Did it work?

- Research may not be readily translated into architectural responses; is there a way to communicate responses in a visual way; a way in which designers respond to more positively?

I also began brainstorming ways WHR could market to prospective Tradewell Fellowship applicants. How can we use the idea of evidence-based practice in the approach to marketing for the Fellowship? What has been done? What has worked / hasn’t worked? How can our methods be measured as a success or failure? How can we use this knowledge to inform next year’s approach?
